I'm so pleased that it's only Sept 2 and the new web class is ready! Say goodbye to Summer themes, and hello to a nice warm toned family theme. I used the leftovers of the Heidi Grace We Are Family collection. I just love the way it came out. I had a lot of fun sanding the papers and the Bo Bunny chipboards. There are only 8 kits available this go round. I underestimated how much of the papers we had left. So if you need one, try to get in to the store this week before they sell out. Click on the link to the left if you want to download the instructions. I'm going to insert the tips right here, I think there are many teachable moments!
1. The main colors I chose to use were red, blue, and green. These colors were pulled out of the tree pattern on the left side. All of these papers are from the Heidi Grace We are Family line. Using a designer collection ensures that everything will match and yet contrast perfectly.
2. One of the neatest tricks on this layout is the sanded papers and sanded chipboard accents. All of the papers are double-sided patterns but they have a white core. This means that if you sand the paper with a sanding block or large nail file you will expose a white core and get a really neat weathered look. The Bo Bunny chipboard also has a white core and can be sanded to get a matching look.
3. Look closely and you will see brads poked through the chipboard accents. This is easy to do, but be careful with your paper piercer. The best way to avoid stabbing injuries (seriously) is to use some kind of mouse pad, Coluzzle mat, or other spongy surface to absorb the piercer’s tip.
4. The circle mats on the left side were done with the Coluzzle cutting system. We love this system! It’s easy to use, easy to see what you are cutting, and inexpensive too.
5. The journaling strips on the right are a great way to creatively present your journaling. The stacked strips add a nice vertical element to the design.
6. The ribbon photo corners on the right side are a fun way to use wide ribbon. Run adhesive on the back corner area, then take a 2” strip of ribbon and wrap it to the back. Do not use adhesive on the front side or else you won’t be able to tuck your photo in. The brads in the corners help to secure the mat in place permanently.
